Jaya criticises Sibal's plan to scrap Class X
CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday criticised the proposal of union HRD minister Kapil Sibal to do away with SSLC examinations saying that the unilateral decision without consulting states was a blow to the autonomy of states. In a statement, she said that the decision appeared to have been made unilaterally and without proper application of mind. Tata DoCoMo rolls out GSM service in Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Tata DoCoMo, the joint venture between telecom majors Tata Teleservices (TTSL) and Japan-based NTT DoCoMo today forayed into GSM operations by launching its service in Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles today. The telecom operator has earmarked around $2 billion (around Rs 10,000 crore) on its pan-India GSM network rollout. (more)

After repeated attempts to impress a teenaged girl failed, an automobile mechanic hit upon a novel idea to win her love by enacting a kidnap drama. Dressed like a woman Sub-Inspector, he abducted the girl in full public view near the Sathangadu bus stand here on Tuesday evening. However, the sequence of events went against his plan and the 24-year-old accused landed in police custody. (more)

A part of their lives is scripted online, 140 characters at a time. Most are better known by the names they have chosen – ‘adapaavi,’ ‘fossiloflife’ and thenalirama, just to name a few. And more than 100 such ‘Tweeple’, their chosen collective noun, met at Photon Towers in Karapakkam on Sunday for Chennai’s first ever Twitter Unconference – Buzz140.
